Website advice

Now that I’m finished with my website https://sportscars163039424.wordpress.com I now know that I should’ve done three specific things. One of them being that I should’ve found more specific websites other than the two I had and to get more specific info. Also to get better photos because you have to use that thing on google for photos which Mr. Sommerer will tell you about. Finally I should’ve gone in to see Mr. Sommerer more often for questions because this can help out a lot.

About My Overwatch Website

It is a website about the game of Overwatch. I will be explaining the different game modes and how they work, and how to play. I will also talk you through the different characters and their abilities, along with their strengths and weaknesses, and when to use them. Each character has different abilities and weapons, I will explain how they work and when to use them as well. I will also talk about the different types of maps and where to best position yourself and your teammates as well. I will also talk about how each character goes well with a specific map and where you should use them to get the best results. In addition to this I will have an other page that will have things like creators or famous rl players who have made a great name for themselves in the overwatch game. Also I will talk about different events that go on throughout the year in overwatch and things that correlate with that. I will also talk about how overwatch was made and what made it come to be. Then I will probably add in the story of overwatch in game story mode types and other special things. I will also talk about rankings and tournaments and competitive leagues and how to get involved in that. With that there will come the overwatch league or overwatch World Cup and how that works. I will put the videos through links so that you can go to see them and watch as the pros play the game.

English Adversity Project

Authors Note:

This article is about how to “Overcome”, each thing will show the people and things that have overcome their fears in different ways and how they have used them for good deeds. Some in songs, some in paintings, and some in their daily lives.

Overcome

My adversity project is over Rocky 4 and how Rocky has to “overcome” his fears. When his friend dies to Drago, he prepares to rematch him in Russia. But Drago is huge and was man made to be a machine of boxing. So Rocky has to overcome his fear of not being there for his family, dying at the hands of Drago, or losing it all. So when he goes to train (which is the best pump up song in the world) he works very hard to overcome these fears. He trains and trains and gets stronger and stronger (this isn’t over a long period of time) it’s a montage that switches from Drago training on machines, to Rocky working with stuff in a barn. He remembers all the times when he had faced adversity, and had overcome them with the help of his family, wife, coaches, and friends, that always helped him win the fight. During the middle of the montage his wife shows up, saying that she will support him no matter what. So it starts up again being even more pumped up than before as he is being supported by his coach and wife. So this is where it starts off to be the actual fight. The Russians taunt him as he walks onto the ring, because of who he is, and because he is an American. But when Drago shows up everyone is cheering for him. This puts a ton of pressure on Rocky because he is not in his own country with his own fans, he only has his coach and wife. As the fight starts, Drago shows that he truly is a machine but Rocky is better. Rocky wears him down, and the crowd slowly starts to cheer for Rocky. Then he wins the fight and makes an amazing speech about overcoming his fears and how grateful he is. This really shows how much he has overcome over the years. I thought it was the best movie of all time. It really shows us how over his different movies how much he had overcome. From being scared and tiny and not being known at all, to a worldwide known person that is respected everywhere. This is why it is my adversity project, because of how much adversity is in this movie and the series.

Paintings that show Adversity

American Gothic House by Grant Wood

This specific painting was made during 1930 during the Great Depression. It was very hard for people back then. They had to overcome poverty and hunger.

Guernica by Pablo Picasso

This painting shows the challenges of the Spanish civil war. It showed how innocent people were killed in the Nazi bombing, and how people had to overcome the deaths of their loved ones.

Holocaust by Yad Vashem

This really shows how much adversity it took during those tough times during the Holocaust. How hard it was to live back then. Each one shows the adversity that people were overcoming at that time. The biggest one shows the deserted town that was blown up from the Nazis. The one on the top right is the camps that the Jews stayed in during this time. Finally the last one shows the beds that they had to sleep in, one on top of the other.

The 2000 Yard Stare by Thomas Lea

This shows the adversity of war in the trenches. His face has the look of fear because he fears his death.

Gas Attack by Lievin

This picture shows of the gas attacks during WWI. It would create huge burns and damage their lungs when exposed to the gas. It also created a fear in them which they had to overcome.

Literature meeting circles journals

1st journal

Discussion Starter:

  1. If you became blind during your life how would you react?

Word Watcher: fleeting- lasting for a very short time

Adversity: Him being blind and having to deal with it

Journal entry:

I think that him beginning to lose his sight would be very difficult. It would be like learning how to walk, talk and read all over again. I think he felt mad at himself and God, I also think he felt lost and afraid. He faced loss of not being able to play sports.

2nd Journal

Adversities: He was going completely blind yet still he becomes a great wrestler then his mom dies and he has to go on after that which would be very hard in his situation.

Discussion starter: The book is very emotional and it’s sad he’s struggling with the cane.

Word watcher: Yearning – to beg deeply

Journal entry:

He is getting better and better at being blind and getting used to it. He is being taught how to walk correctly with a guide dog. He is starting to get a little mad though at himself, because he can’t do many things right. He tries not to give up but it is a struggle for him.

3rd Journal

Discussion Starter:

Adversary:

  • For my adversity it is getting over his girlfriend leaving him and starting moving on talking to another girl.
  • He can pop his fake eye out. The adversity for this is that he can’t see what the person he likes looks like. It would be hard for both of them to get to know each other because they are both blind.

Word Watcher:

  •  Dramatize- exaggerate the seriousness or importance of
  • ingenuity- the quality of being clever, original, and inventive

Journal entry:

This chapter really shows how much he has learned through hand signals and other things with his friends. It shows how much he has overcome his blindness and gotten used to it. He has tried wrestling and he has gotten really good at it.

4th Journal

Journal entry:

The adversity in this part of the book is him being blind and still wanting to climb the mountain. His friend, Ryan, has heart problems while climbing up Mount Mckinley and has to go back down the mountain. He decides to keep going with his other friend Jeff and they reach the top. He feels really ecstatic about this and it influences many people around the world.

Word Watcher:

  • Crampon: Metal spikes attached to the bottom of shoes to help you from not slipping

5th Journal

Adversity – I would say him climbing the mountain as good as he did was really showing adversity most people who aren’t blind could not climb it like him. It is also encouraging people who are blind and who aren’t to do the same thing.

Word Watcher-

Rooting- cheering with joy in celebration or for someone

Slog- work hard over a period of time

Discussion questions- Do you think that you would have the patience to climb the mountain being blind?

Discussion question – Do you think you would have to have to have patience while being blind? Just in his everyday life, do you think that he needs patience?

Journal entry:

I think that him being blind really taught him a lesson of life. Him being blind taught him to be closer to God and with his family and life. Him reaching the top of Mount Everest really taught others that disabilities don’t have to stop you from your dreams.

Memoir

When I was in 7th grade at Lux middle school, I remember always dealing with great depression and anxiety. It was mostly because I was always getting bullied. I really hated this. Every night I would come home so depressed and I had a feeling of hopelessness. That’s when I decided to pray to God for him to help me decide what to do. The answer I got was kind of a painful situation that he really wanted me to turn to him about. I remember I was in the lunchroom and this mean kid was teasing me and threw ketchup all over my pants. It was really embarrassing. I went over to get napkins while everyone at the table was laughing, and I wiped my shorts off. At that moment it felt like I was on a stage with everyone laughing at me, which they were! I was so embarrassed for the rest of the day as people would walk behind me and laugh at the stain on my shorts. I knew that after this day I couldn’t stand it any more and it gave me the courage to do something hard. That was my call from God, to go to Lincoln Lutheran. I first shadowed at Lincoln Lutheran and I really liked it there. It was super fun and everyone was so nice. That’s when I decided to go there next year. But some of the kids at my school found out and tried to make it the worst rest of the year for me as humanly possible. I was super eager to get to Lincoln Lutheran. Throughout the summer it got better and better leading up to the day that I would go to Lincoln Lutheran. But I was also nervous because I only knew a couple people from church and confirmation. But that is when I decided to get the guts to try a soccer summer camp which really helped with my friends. But when the day came around it wasn’t that bad and it was easier than I thought. It hasn’t always been that easy though. There have been some bumps along the way, however I would still make the same decision because I feel like it was God’s plan for me.

#iwishmyteacherknew

I play a lot of sports but my favorite is soccer, I have played soccer since I was 3. I play on CSA (Capital Soccer Association) I also hope to play on the Lincoln Lutheran soccer team. I play center defensive back, which is pretty much just a defender, though I hope to play striker as I go into Lincoln Lutheran soccer. I am also now a starter kicker for JV and I am really enjoying it. I also love to play video games though I am not hard core on them and I do not play them a lot than a lot of people do. I love to read a lot especially books with action in them, sci-fi, or mythology, some of my favorite books is by author Rick Riordan.

I hope you learned something new about me, I hope you enjoyed reading it too!

GS2 final draft

Spring-forward, Fall-back
People wonder why we have spring forward and fall back, well a little after the beginning of time the farmer was getting mad of his crops not growing because of the loss of sunlight. Every year he got so mad when his crops wouldn’t finish growing because of the loss of sunlight, so that night he had a master plan to make it so that he would have more sunlight.
At about 200 B.C. there was a very lonely and sad farmer who barely made any money to live with all because he did not have enough daylight for his crops to grow. So the farmer got the guts and went up to the Sun God’s palace and took Time and turned Time forward so he could have more daylight,
“That should do it,” he said.
Then he hid Time somewhere so dark and deep in the ground that the Sun God could never ever find it. The next day the Sun God was outraged and wanted to find out who stole Time so he went to every house in the world asking everyone saying,
“If you do not find out who it is then you will be punished greatly.” said the Sun God
But he did not go to the farmer’s house because he knew that the farmer was too weak to steal Time and could not find a good reason why the farmer would do it.
Year after year, the farmer had great crops. He sold so much crops that by the end of the year he was rich and all because of his crops growing because of more sunlight. Though this had a horrible impact on the Sun God because was getting tired of shining all the time. So one day he stopped shining, he got so tired that he plummeted down from the sky and crash landed on the ground. It was dark for at least a month until the farmer came up to the Sun God and asked him why he wasn’t shining anymore. The Sun explained why, at that very moment the farmer had a change in heart and the farmer felt bad and explained that he had Time this whole time hidden somewhere so deep that the Sun couldn’t even find it, and that he turned Time forward. This enraged the Sun blasting the farmer back down to earth. The Sun took Time back to his palace and turned him back to restore time.
After this every year in the spring the farmer would go up and steal Time and turn him forward and then in the fall the sun would take Time back and turn it back. This would repeat every year and this is why we have spring forward and fall back.

Teenagers tortured in Maze

by Brooks Guyton

Wicked the science group has put many innocent teenage boys in a Glade surrounded by a big Maze that they created. They then put teenage boys in the Maze to test them, but the boys do not know who or what is going on. Wicked has made them so that they can not remember anything, so they have no idea why they are there or who they are. The only thing they remember is their name.

They each get delivered up in a metal box every month with supplies so that they can survive in the glade. They each had a job to do in the glade, according to Alby. Alby was the first to come up out of the box so he is technically the leader, he believed that if they worked together and didn’t hurt each other and stayed out of the Maze at night they would stay alive.

One of the gladers said this after they got out “ I was so afraid and I didn’t know what was going on” this quote was from Thomas one of the gladers that made it out. The guy who was called the “hero” because he helped them all get out safely, and he came up with the plan to get out, and it worked. It was rough to get out according to the gladers that made it out, they said mostly because of the grievers the half robot half monster looking things that killed most of their friends on the way to freedom through the Maze. “If you weren’t scared you weren’t human” said one of the gladers.

For now they are staying in a hotel protected by military people and hopefully that Wicked doesn’t get their hands on them again so that they can experiment on them or torture them.

Their new question is what will happen now? And why were they put there in the first place? Or was all of this on purpose for their experiment. Now that the world is burnt from the scorching sun what will they do? How will they live their lives or will the journey continue?

What can I put on my website?

Short Answer: It’s your website; put anything you want on it. Make sure it is professional, thoughtful and kind.

Longer Answer: You will occasionally be asked by one of your teachers to put something that you create for class on your website. They might do this to help you share something great that you did with the rest of the world. They might do it so that you can get feedback from a wider audience. But I hope you also put things up just because you want to. A recap of your latest game? Something in the world that you want to share your opinion about? The cute thing your little sister did? What you thought about the book you read? The Movie you saw? The possibilities are endless.

But remember, the whole world can read what you write. Make sure you proof read it before you publish it. Make sure it’s not Too Much Information (don’t share things that are too personal). Make sure it’s kind.

Finally, your website should look professional. Your website isn’t Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Posts to your website should have some thought and substance to them.  Pick the right tool for how you want to communicate. Sometimes that will be Facebook, sometimes Twitter and sometimes it will be your website.

By the way, you can delete this post when you’re done reading it. If you leave it on your site, it will seem a little odd to people.

Advice on running your website

Congratulations, you now have a website. You might be wondering, “Why do I have a website?” That’s a question for a different post. Of course, having a website is a little bit of a responsibility. Here are some things that you should keep in mind now that you have one.

  • Don’t post information that is too personal on your website. You shouldn’t post your address or phone number. You shouldn’t post anything that you would be upset about if everyone in the school (or the world) found out about.
  • Give people a little context before you start writing. You might start a post off with something like this, “This post is a reflection on the third chapter of John Steinbeck’s novel, Of Mice and Men. I wrote this when I was in 10th grade for English class.”
  • People will eventually comment on things that you put on your website. If the comment looks like spam, you should delete it. If you don’t delete it, you will get a lot more spam. They target people who do not delete spam. If a comment isn’t nice, you should delete it too. You want your website to be a nice spot to visit.
  • Try to avoid being negative. If there’s something that you want to write about and it sounds like a complaint, why not try to write it as a suggestion on how something can be improved instead. I’m sure you get bonus points every time your website makes the world a better place.
  • Be a little bit selective about what you decide to put on your website. It should be a little more professional than Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
  • What you write is more important than how your website looks, but having a good looking website says something to your visitors too. If you need help with your website, ask someone who has a nice looking website. Or you can ask at help.lincolnlutheran.org. You can also stop by the Tech Center.
  • How you classify posts is important. Always click on a Class and Grade before you post. If it applies, click on one or more Categories and Interests as well. This will help other people find what they are looking for on your site.
  • You can add other Interests (or delete some). You do that from the Posts menu. You can also add Classes. In fact, you’ll have to. Pro Tip: You can say item they should appear under by setting the Parent item. Once you add more Interests or Categories, remember to put them in your menu as well. You’ll find that under Appearance.
  • In the Plugins menu, there are other tools that you can add to your website. But don’t keep them unless you use them, because every plugin slows your website down a little bit.  After you get good at using the basic WordPress tools, and you’ve written a few dozen posts, you can upgrade your account to have access to more tools.
  • Most of the content on your website will be posts, but you can also publish pages. You use pages for things that will never (or very seldom) change. If you make a page, don’t forget to add it to your menu.
  • Images can make your website more fun. Sometimes it’s easy to pick an image. Just take a picture of what you are writing about. But remember that if you use an image off the internet that you should have permission to use it. You can get images like that from Google or Flickr. Those links go to the sections of Google and Flickr image search where people put images for other people to use.

By the way, you should probably make it so that other people can’t see this post. There’s a lot of advice here, so rather than delete it, do one of these things: Change it’s Status from “Published” to “Draft”. Then it will be available to you in the admin section of your website, but people who visit your site won’t see it. Or, you could change the Visibility from “Public” to “Private”. If you do that, then you’ll still see it on your website (if you are logged in), but other people will not.
